The method involves rotating a drum (2) rotated in a right direction with a rotation speed, and measuring medium hydrostatic pressure with a pressure sensor (15). The drum is rotated in a left direction with another rotation speed, and another medium hydrostatic pressure is measured with the pressure sensor. The two medium hydrostatic pressures are evaluated for detecting an incorrect operating condition, and a difference value is obtained by subtracting one of the hydrostatic pressures from the other and compared with predetermined difference of a pressure apset value. An independent claim is also included for a washing machine comprising a lye container.
