The burner (10) has a mixing chamber (14) for producing a fuel air mixture (72), and an ignition device (48) arranged on a main axis (20) of the mixing chamber and on a main axis (22) of a combustion chamber (16). The ignition device includes a commercial glow plug (48) for a diesel engine. A sheathed element e.g. glow pin (82), of the glow plug is fixed in the mixing chamber. A seal seat (54) provided between the plug and a tubular burner housing of the burner is formed conically and/or gas-tightly. The housing has an internal thread (46) for screw connection of the plug. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring condition of flame in a gas burner.
