The apparatus has a sensor platform (26) with sensors (26a), where the platform is fixed on an elongated, extendable support (23). The support is introduced into and withdrawn from a narrow air gap via an access opening. The support is guided over length of the gap by a drive (24) and is rolled-up outside the gap. Magnets (27) are arranged on the support. The magnets are distributed over length of the support to bring the support in contact with a ferromagnetic surface, where the magnets are fixed on a surface of the support. The surface is turned away from the ferromagnetic surface.
