The cavity forms a closed, gas-tight system filled with gas, particularly dry air. The gas in the total volume of the cavity is under normal or elevated pressure, when the piston is at the outer end of the pipe. The pressure is doubled and multiplied when the piston is moved to the other end (8) of pipe.
