The method involves regulating updated exhaust gas recirculation flow rate using an estimated value. The estimated value is determined based on measurement of turbocharger speed. A calibration data set is determined in a calibration phase, and values of exhaust gas recirculation flow rate are assigned to values of turbocharger speed. An updated operating point of an internal combustion engine and the updated exhaust gas recirculation flow rate are estimated based on the calibration data set, where the operating point is defined by motor speed and motor load. An independent claim is also included for a device for regulating flow rate of exhaust gas recirculation in an internal combustion engine.
