The method involves receiving weather forecast by a controller (110) of a motor vehicle (100). A heating or cooling system (200) of the motor vehicle is operated depending on information provided by a navigation system (120) of the motor vehicle, where the heating or cooling system of the motor vehicle includes a cooler (210) for cooling an internal combustion engine (140) of the motor vehicle. Forecast about temperature of the internal combustion engine is determined from the information provided by the navigation system. An independent claim is also included for a controller for a motor vehicle.
