The method involves removing a robot (17) from a workpiece present in a workpiece-holder (14) and from an entrance area (16a) of the holder. A cutting tool (6) is directly positioned from a waiting position into the entrance area by a pivot cylinder housing (3). The cutting tool is moved through the entrance area by the cylinder housing, for processing the workpiece. The cutting tool is disengaged from the workpiece by the cylinder housing and is moved back to the waiting position. The processed workpiece is removed from the workpiece-holder by the robot. An independent claim is also included for a device for cutting or separating a sprue from a workpiece.
