The method involves opening and/or switching off a switching element of an automatic or automated motor vehicle transmission. The switching element is closed and/or switched on for implementation of switching. An offset e.g. pressure offset, for controlling the switching element to be closed and/or switched on is determined for implementation of traction shifting depending on a drive unit contact for the switching element to be closed and/or switched on such that effects of the drive unit contact on output torque resting against an output of the transmission are minimized.
