The method involves collecting (101) an electrical parameter, which is connected with an activation current of the relay, and determining (103) the engaging time corresponding to the collected electrical parameter. The engaging time is assigned to a reference parameter. The collected electrical parameter is compared with the reference parameter to determine the engaging time.
