The method involves determining a composition value of the fuel mixture from an output signal of a knocking sensor or from a knocking regulation of the internal-combustion engine. A lean subscript bound (21) of the internal-combustion engine is determined for the fuel mixture such that another composition value is determined from the lean subscript bound. An independent claim is also included for a device for determining the composition of a fuel mixture of two different fuels for operating an internal-combustion engine.
