The device (1) has a sonotrode (2), and a vibration sensor (4) for producing vibrations. The vibration sensor is laterally arranged at an anvil (3) to induce vibrations in the anvil such that an anvil surface (31) deforms according to the vibrations in a direction perpendicular to the anvil surface. The vibration sensor induces maximum amplitude (A) of the vibrations within a middle region (32) of the anvil in longitudinal direction. The vibration sensor produces single waves or multiple waves and includes a piezo element, a compressed air device or an eccentric cam device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an arrangement for sealing foil regions (2) a method for ultrasonic sealing of foils for packing.
