The cap (7) has a front wall with a through-hole for a piston rod (3) of a vibration damper (1). A cylindrical skirt is attached to the front wall, and encompasses an end section of a container tube (2) of the damper. An accommodating chamber is arranged at a side of the cap for storing oil that leaks from the container pipe, where the side of the cap points to the pipe. The cap is sealed with respect to the pipe against passage of the oil, and vent holes running in a radial direction connect the chamber with an outer periphery of the pipe.
