The method involves arranging a lifting device (12) on an inspection vehicle (1) movable in a main channel (7), and upwardly moving the lifting device in a manhole (5) in a vertical direction. The manhole is inspected from a side of the main channel using an inspection camera (10), which is attached to the lifting device, where the manhole branches from the main channel. A deflection guide of the lifting device is arranged at a front free end of a carriage (8), where lifting height of the lifting device extends over a clear height of the main channel. An independent claim is also included for a device for inspecting and cleaning a manhole.
