The device (1) has a profiling device (2) i.e. embossing roller (20), for producing a groove-shaped protrusion (11) at a surface side of veneer strips (10). An adhesive thread supply unit (3) supplies adhesive threads (4), which comprise a heating element (5) for activating the adhesive threads. The threads are inserted into the groove-shaped protrusion. The profiling device comprises a miller and an embossing element. The roller comprises a pattern, which is rotated on a casing (21). Alignment elements (7) align the veneer strips before supply of the veneer strips to the profiling device. An independent claim is also included for a method for connecting veneer strips i.e. middle position veneers.
