The method involves dividing a two-dimensional X-ray image (10) into partial images (12.1-12.5) that locally vary with predetermined field frequency characterized for each partial image. The partial images are independently balanced from each other using one of the detector-specific balancing factors (15). Detector-independent visual impressions are realized by the balancing factors depending on an X-ray detector that records the X-ray image. The balanced partial images are added adjacent to a final image (11). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an X-ray system for executing a method for processing a two-dimensional X-ray image (2) an image processing-and computing unit for processing a recorded X-ray image, comprising a program storage (3) a computer program with a program code unit for executing a method for processing a two-dimensional X-ray image (4) a computer programming product including a program code unit stored in a computer-readable data carrier for executing a method for processing a two-dimensional X-ray image.
