The internal combustion engine has an operating cylinder (12) which is assigned in an inlet valve (14) that serves the gas cycle. An intake path is provided for air with a suction pipe. The operating cylinder and the inlet valve are arranged along an intended line. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an internal combustion engine.
