The tool (1) has a servomotor (10) mechanically connected with a fly wheel of an energy storage (8) and electrically connected with an inverter, which is connected with a direct current circuit. A control unit controls current drain and/or current supply from and/or into the direct current circuit based on a filling level of the energy storage and by direct current voltage of the inverter. The fly wheel is arranged on a rotor shaft of the servomotor in a torque proof manner, and is accommodated in an evacuated housing. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a machine tool.
