The method involves laying ring segment shaped filter elements (11, 12) over an image (10) for digital image filtering, and producing filter results (13, 14) by the filter elements. Occurrence of characterizing components (21) of an eye in the image is determined from the filter results, where the components characterize variable change or position change of the eye. The filter results are converted into binary images (17, 18) by method for threshold value imaging (15, 16). Focal points (19, 20) are determined from the binary images.
