The rope is formed of yarns of high-tensile polyethylene fiber and an outer layer of polyurethane. The outer layer is extruded on a core, where thickness of the outer layer and diameter of the core are coordinated in such a manner that the core at an outer surface is not fused or fused only to an extent that the ultimate tensile strength of the rope exhibits a predetermined value. The thickness of the outer layer amounts to 0.2 mm or 0.5 to 0.9 mm. The core is located below the outer layer, and includes adhesive agent and/or impregnation. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a rope.
