The device has a liquid draining device (4) provided in a lower side of an upper cross member (3) of a door portal (2), where the liquid draining device includes a wedge-shaped downwardly pointing tip (9) and a groove (10). Notches of the groove run parallel to outer skin of a motor vehicle. A blower e.g. suction device (6) such as vacuum pump, is arranged at the lower side of the upper cross member. The blower for blowing water drops (7) is activated by manipulation of a door handle for opening a door (8) with simultaneous detection of moisture and deactivated when the door is closed.
