The drive unit (26) has a form-fit drive comprising a driven wheel, where movement of the driven wheel enables closing and stretching of a parasol. A locking unit locks the drive in a form-fit manner after the parasol is stretched, and is automatically moved into a locked position without requiring any external force. The locking unit is lockable in its operating position, and a permanent form-fit force transmitting connection exists between a drive wheel and the driven wheel. The drive- and driven wheels are formed as bevel gears. An independent claim is also included for a parasol comprising a drive unit.
