The device has personal computer connected to a sensor. A statistical analysis method is used for feature extraction. Obtained features are fed to a learning hybrid system for identification of sounds e.g. intestinal movement sound. The hybrid system consists of hidden Markov models, neural networks and a knowledge-based machine. A classification result is provided with classification quality. The result is fed to a learning system for result confirmation. A spectral or Fourier analysis method, a cepstral analysis method or a wavelet analysis method is used as the statistical analysis method.
