The method involves applying the force on a compressor-side end of an exhaust turbocharger shaft (10) with the application of the torque on a mounting nut (14). The counterforce is applied on the exhaust turbocharger shaft. A mounting nut is screwed with the predetermined torque at a compressor-side end (18) of the exhaust turbocharger shaft such that a compressor wheel of the exhaust turbocharger shaft is clamped between the mounting nut and a stopper.
