The method involves capturing image sequences of an environment of a vehicle (1) by a camera (3.1,3.2) and determining an optical flow and collision time from the image sequence flow vectors. The flow vectors of different pixels are evaluated in pair. An independent claim is also included for a device for early recognition of collision of a vehicle with a collision object.
