The apparatus (104) has a side airbag system (106) with a force concentration device (112) for concentrating force of an expanded airbag (110) at a tear-open seam (115) that is formed as a structure for surrounding the airbag. The structure has two opposite ends, where one of the ends is cut such that sections are formed. The sections of the structure are arranged at a distance from the other end and directly seamed to the tear-open seam for forming seam sections. The seam sections form a hole in the tear-open seam during expansion of the airbag such that the tear-open seam is opened.
