The method involves determining an actual position of a vehicle by a positioning system (2) e.g. global positioning system, based on positioning signals. Images of a surrounding of the vehicle in a preset route section are recorded before reaching a danger point. Two natural landmarks are determined from the images of the surrounding. The determined landmarks and the associated actual position are stored at a time point of recording of the images during reaching the danger point. The danger point is marked in a digitized road map. An independent claim is also included for a system for designing a database for determining a position of a vehicle.
