The unit has an electronics plate (2) arranged with an indicator LED (3) in a housing. The electronics plate is coated by softer transparent plastic coating. A base unit is surrounded by the housing that is formed of an optically non-transparent harder plastic material. The transparent plastic coating and the housing are formed as an integral injection-molded plastic part. A light cathedral is attached at the base unit and creates an optical path between the indicator LED and an outside space of the housing. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing an electronic switching unit.
