The device (50) has a temperature sensor (51) arranged in a working fluid path directly in front of a rotor disk of a turbocompressor (1). A control device (53) forms difference of temperature signals. The control device forms a control value from the difference and outputs a pump stroke detection signal when the control value exceeds a preset limit value. A delta T/dt limiter (52) has a signal input (52a) and a signal output (52b) that are connected with a signal output (51a) of the sensor and a signal input (53b) of the control device, respectively. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting pump stroke in a turbocompressor.
