The system (10) has an ink pump (11) with a suction element (12) connected with an interior of an ink container (20), and an ink leveling unit for leveling the ink level in an area of the suction element. A follow-up plate (13) is movable relative to an interior of the container and arranged transverse to a direction of change in the ink level, where the follow-up plate is adapted to the ink level in the container. The ink leveling unit has a follow-up plate drive (14) that stands in a drive connection with the follow-up plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for conveying ink.
