The waste heat recovery boiler has multiple heat transfer tubes (4) and a bypass tube (3) inside a cylindrical outer cover. The heat transfer tubes and bypass tube have an inlet end and an outlet end. An inlet is provided for supplying water on the cover side of the tubes. The outlet end of the bypass tube discharges into a nozzle bending and extending into the outlet chamber (9). The center line of the nozzle comprises a bend angle (alpha) with the longitudinal axis of the waste heat recovery boiler. The end of the nozzle is provided with a locking system (8). An independent claim is also included for a method for cooling hot synthesis gas.
