The method involves booting a computer from a cryptographic equipment and requesting for inputting a smart card personal identification number by the user. Credentials are decoded by a smart card hardware of the cryptographic equipment. A booting process is resumed from a data memory. An independent claim is also included for a cryptographic equipment for improving the safety of a coded data memory, from which a computer is booted.
