The method involves determining an actual longitudinal acceleration (A) of a motor vehicle and an average longitudinal acceleration (B) under consideration of natural frequency of turning off of the vehicle on an end of the brake application. Deviation of the longitudinal acceleration (C) is determined by subtracting the actual longitudinal acceleration from the average longitudinal acceleration. An actual standstill point of the vehicle is determined form the deviation of the longitudinal acceleration. The average and deviation of the accelerations are determined by a low-pass filter. An independent claim is also included for a device for executing a method for determining a position of an actual standstill point of a motor vehicle.
