The machine has a machine frame (2) and/or machine housing, and a guide rod (3) fastened to the machine frame in a vertical orientation. A knife bar (4) is movably guided, liftable or lowerable in or at the guide rod, and a tool e.g. knife (8), is fastened to the knife bar. A feed drive (16) is operated on a feed wedge (5) over a feed slide (17). A drawing slide (14) is guided into a guiding channel (7') that is arranged in an interior of a guide column (3'). A drive spindle (13) is arranged inside the guiding channel and engaged through the drawing slide.
