The method for arc welding, comprises producing a welding connection by means of an arc for stud welding, magnetically influencing the arc by means of an influencing device, which has a magnetic circuit with an electric coil device, and a field shaper from a magnetizable material, and providing the electric coil device during a time segment in the production of welding connection with an influencing direct current in order to influence the magnetic arc. The coil device is provided after the production of the welding connection with a remanence disposal current. The method for arc welding, comprises producing a welding connection by means of an arc for stud welding, magnetically influencing the arc by means of an influencing device, which has a magnetic circuit with an electric coil device, and a field shaper from a magnetizable material, and providing the electric coil device during a time segment in the production of welding connection with an influencing direct current in order to influence the magnetic arc. The coil device is provided after the production of the welding connection with a remanence disposal current, whose polarity is opposite to the polarity of the influencing direct current in order to reduce a magnetic remanence in the magnetic circuit. The coil device is provided after the production of welding connection with a first remanence disposal current, whose polarity is opposite to the polarity of the influencing direct current, and then with a second remanence disposal current, whose polarity is opposite to the polarity of the first remanence disposal current. The amount of the second remanence disposal current is less than the amount of first remanence disposal current. The amount of remanence disposal current is less than the amount of the influencing direct current. The remanence disposal current is applied for a shorter period of time than the influencing direct current and is a direct current.
