The method involves inserting a semi-finished product into a work piece retainer of a forming tool and heating a surface area of the work piece retainer before inserting the semi-finished product by an inductive heating device. The heating device is arranged in a close to the surface area to be heated, activated for a predetermined time and de-activated before inserting the semi-finished product. The heating device is handled by a manipulator, and an area of the forming tool spaced apart from the work piece retainer is cooled, during heating the surface area of the work piece retainer.
