The method for monitoring and/or controlling a device for attaching a respective welding spot to many successive joints, comprises measuring a current and a voltage of the joint, determining a resistance of the joint by means of current and voltage, determining a time row of resistance, determining a prognosis for aging the device in dependence of a characteristic of the time row, determining a resistance profile, determining a final resistance of the resistance profile, and determining the characteristic by dividing the time row into three phases. The method for monitoring and/or controlling a device for attaching a respective welding spot to many successive joints, comprises measuring a current and a voltage of the joint, determining a resistance of the joint by means of current and voltage, determining a time row of resistance, determining a prognosis for aging the device in dependence of a characteristic of the time row, determining a resistance profile, determining a final resistance of the resistance profile, determining the characteristic by dividing the time row into three phases such as a rising phase, a quasi-static phase and a falling phase, and generating a warning for aging the device, if the falling phase is recognizable and/or is below a resistance of a threshold value. The device has an electrode. The method is applied for variety of electrodes. An independent claim is included for a device for attaching a respective welding spot.
