The thermal solar collector (1) has a solar energy absorber (2) with a spiral shaped wound absorber pipe (6). Pipe turns (8) of the absorber pipe are fixed under formation of a self-supporting absorber unit (5). The pipe turns are provided adjacent to each other. The absorber pipe is made of plastic material, particularly polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a thermal solar collector.
