The method involves producing a photographic view (12) of an external completed personalization side of a personalized safety document (1), where the document has optically detectable safety features and a writable and readable electronic data memory. The photographic view is stored in the data memory and/or in an external database in digitalized form. Another photographic view of the document is produced for verifying authenticity of the document, and the latter photographic view is compared with the former photographic view for confirmation of the authenticity of the document. An independent claim is also included for a document testing device comprising a reading device for reading image data from a data memory of a safety document.
