The device has a movable arm (7) supporting a measuring- or marking tool. The movable arm is provided with a rotary joint (12). A position of the measuring- or marking tool is transferred by a measuring unit of the rotary joint directly or indirectly to a processor (4). The processor comprises a processing program for determining, detection and/or storage of measurement values. The measuring unit is in the form of an absolute value sensor that includes a reading head and a locking recess. The absolute value sensor is designed as single turn or multiturn-absolute value sensor.
