The device has an energy recovery circuit (50) exhibiting a working medium and thermally coupled with a cooling circuit (22) of a drive (16) that exhibits a turbine device (42) for transformation of thermal and/or kinetic energy of the working medium into electricity. A thermal coupling between the cooling circuit and the energy recovery circuit takes place by a liquid-liquid-heat exchanger (40) that functions as a main cooler of the drive for an internal combustion engine. The energy recovery circuit is filled with a refrigerant such as tetrafluoroethane, carbon dioxide and hydrofluoroolefin. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle comprising an electric motor (2) a method for producing electrical energy from waste heat of a drive of a motor vehicle.
