The method involves linearly extending brightness values of information content on a common dynamic range of brightness values of a display surface. Environmental condition is detected, and the linearly extended brightness values of the information content are adjusted based on the detected environmental condition in a non-linear manner. The brightness values realized by non-linear adjustment are represented on the display surface. A range of irrelevant information of the information content is differentiated from relevant information by a threshold value for the brightness values. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a display device for a vehicle (2) a computer program product comprising instructions to perform a method for displaying information content of a vehicle on a display.
