The motorcycle brake system has hydraulically actuated front wheel- and rear wheel brake circuits (4,10), two main brake cylinders (7,13) for independent actuation of both the brake circuits, a unit for brake pressure regulation in each brake circuit, and a two circuit piston pump (9) for pressure supply of the front wheel- and rear wheel brake circuits. The piston pump for generating pressure in the brake circuit has a stepped piston. The brake circuit is autonomously acted by the piston pump independent of the actuation of the associated main brake cylinder.
