The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for deenergizing an exciter winding (e) of a synchronous machine in the case of a fault with a control circuit (1) for controlling a current flow through the exciter winding (e), wherein for exciting a positive control voltage and of rapid disexcitation a negative control voltage to the exciter winding (e) can be applied, and a parallel to the exciter winding (e) switched protective circuit (10) which, in the case of the speed de no flow of current by way of the protective circuit (10) and in the case of interruption of at least one connecting line between the control circuit (1) and the exciter winding (e) a current path to the voltage limitation and de-excitation of the exciter winding (e) is formed.
