The hydraulic brake system has pedal unit (2) that is used to exert predetermined force on master brake cylinder (3). The predetermined force is applied onto the master brake cylinder by operation of power supply (202). The predetermined braking pressure is exerted by a wheel brake cylinder which is to be constructed. The power supply is a hydraulic accumulator or pneumatic reservoir that is charged from external power supply by adjustment of gas pressure in the hydraulic accumulator or pneumatic reservoir. An independent claim is included for method for operating hydraulic brake system.
