The device has a memory unit (21) for storing volume control information for respective audio signals (1). The information includes a state quantity of volume control or volume manipulated variable, where the device is formed such that the current quantity and/or the current variable are stored in the memory unit as the information for the selected signal during selection of the signal. The information stored in the memory unit for the selected signal is used for controlling or setting the volume of the selected signal during selection of the signal.
