The component (2) has wave guide patterns integrated in a support substrate (4) i.e. glass. Wave guides (6) i.e. multimode wave guides, are brought together to a common wave guide. Two planar support substrate halves (4A, 4B) are connected with wave guide halves (6A, 6B) such that the guide halves form the wave guides. The wave guides are provided with a diameter of 50 micrometer to 1 mm. The substrate halves are mechanically fixed together by a thin solder glass layer (9), where the solder glass layer comprises a thickness of 100 nanometer. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an optical plug connection system comprising plug connection elements (2) a method for manufacturing a passive optical component.
