The method involves filling and pressurizing a hot water tank with fluid e.g. gas or liquid, such that the fluid is passed through a wall of the water tank during leakage of the water tank. The leakage, temperature change, surface area change i.e. foam formation, color change and acoustic change are detected by a deviating signal and a thermal sensor. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing leakage of a hot water tank.
