The engine has cylinders (1-6) with a throttle controller and a throttle-free load controller over a valve train or a direct injection part. A fuel air mixture regulator, and an exhaust gas after-treatment system is provided with a catalyzer e.g. three-way catalyzer (7). The cylinders or cylinders groups are adjusted to different fuel air ratios. The cylinders or the cylinder groups comprise the exhaust gas after-treatment system such that an exhaust gas discharge is separately provided with the catalyzer for the cylinders and the cylinder groups.
