The device (7) has a microprocessor (16), where the device is connectable to a local area network (LAN) (5) i.e. Ethernet, over a LAN interface (6). Two electronic devices (1, 2) communicate with each other by the LAN interface. The device is formed to monitor data traffic on the LAN, and records data traffic, addressed from one of the electronic devices to the other electronic device, in a data file (8) such that the data traffic addressed between the electronic devices is reproducible based on the data file regarding layer 6 or layer 7 of an ISO7-layer-model. The electronic devices are designed as medical imaging device e.g. computer tomography (CT)-scanner, C-arm x-ray unit, magnetic resonance system, ultrasound tomography apparatus and positron emission tomography (PET) apparatus, or data administration system e.g. hospital information system (HIS), radiology information system (RIS) and picture archiving and communication system (PACS), for medical image data. An independent claim is also included for a computer program comprising instructions to perform a method for operating a logging device.
