The object has a bore hole (2) receiving a transponder (1), and opens out at side surfaces (S1, S2) of the object. The hole extends from one of side surfaces to another side surface, and the transponder is fixed in the hole that is connected with an edge recess for lowering a turbulent flow. A turbulent flow lowering unit (3) i.e. slot, is arranged in a region of the hole such that a non-closed material flow is provided around the transponder. The hole includes a base that extends through a slot, and the transponder is arranged in a housing (4). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an apparatus for identifying a metallic object, comprising a transponder (2) a method for inserting a transponder into a metallic object.
